Financial Controller

We are seeking a hands-on Financial Controller who will oversee the accounting functions and be responsible for the overall day-to-day activities of the finance department.

You will work closely with the CFO and management team, bringing strong cost accounting and operational finance experience to help guide the company’s financial strategy while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day financial functions. This is not a high-level, strategic-only role — we’re looking for a doer, someone who is just as comfortable in the details as they are in leadership conversations.

The role includes managing a small team of direct reports (Accounting Manager and Staff Accountant). The ideal candidate will bring extensive accounting experience within manufacturing, including exposure to ERP systems, cost accounting, treasury functions, payables and receivables, and inventory.  This is an exciting opportunity to join a company on the rise and play a critical role in its continued success.

If you’re energized by solving real-time business challenges, improving processes, and contributing to a lean, entrepreneurial environment, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee cost structures to ensure accuracy, drive efficiency, and support cost reduction strategies. Analyze margins and assess product- and customer-level profitability. Monitor inventory turnover and support supply chain optimization.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting activities. Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Provide timely financial insights to guide executive decision-making.
  • Partner with manufacturing and operations teams to drive performance and process improvement. Collaborate with department heads to ensure alignment between financial goals and operational execution.
  • Actively manage and contribute to the month-end close process, reconciliations, reporting packages, and audit preparation.
  • Evaluate and enhance ERP utilization for improved data accuracy and reporting. Streamline workflows and implement sustainable financial controls.
  • Manage and mentor a small but capable finance team and help drive a culture of financial literacy across the Organization, through education,  accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8–10 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 3–5 years in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong background in cost accounting and operational finance
  • Proficient in ERP systems, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • CPA or MBA preferred, but not mandatory
  • M&A exposure is a plus, but not required
  • Advanced Excel capabilities and proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience working in a small to mid-sized company with a hands-on approach
  • Ability to balance strategic initiatives with day-to-day execution
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and leadership capabilities
  • Comfortable working in a lean team and wearing multiple hats
  • Highly adaptable, collaborative, and process-driven

Attributes

  • Flexible and adaptable mindset that will thrive in an ever-changing and growing organization.
  • Self-awareness – individual knows their strengths and opportunities for continued growth and development and does not shy away from learning opportunities.
  • Creative thinker – individual sees challenges or problems as puzzles or opportunities to solve.
  • Eager collaborator – focus on collective goals and not individual achievements.
  • Grit – individual sees problems as “opportunities to solve” and does not get discouraged with setbacks.
  • Humility and Humor – Individual prioritizes listening and understanding. Takes work challenges seriously, but not themselves—uses humor and levity to help bridge gaps and break down barriers.
  • Empathy – recognizes the innate value in all team members and helps to foster a supportive and positive culture.
  • The salary range for this role is $135,000 – $165,000 annually.  Compensation is commensurate with level of knowledge, education, skills, and experience applicable to the position.
