Equipment Mechanics needed for 1st and 2nd shifts.

The Mechanic I is responsible to safely set up, troubleshoot, monitor, changeover, and repair various types of manufacturing equipment such as fillers, cappers, bottle labelers, conveyors, induction sealers, transfer pumps, and other type of production equipment.  The Mechanic I will provide technical assistance and support to other Mechanics.  Must be a team player and be able to work independently and deliver on production goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carries out all responsibilities in compliance with company policies, procedures, and state, federal, and local laws. Fully complies with current Good Manufacturing Practice’s (GMP’s) and health and safety regulations.
  • Performs set up/changeover of varied manufacturing equipment (fillers, conveyors, tanks, pumps, motors, etc.) according to expectations. This includes making proper adjustments, corrections, and repairs to ensure the equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and according to quality and customer standards and within scheduling timeline.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, electrical (120V, 208V), pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Locates and diagnoses failure, replaces defective components and performs complex troubleshooting using standard equipment, detailed drawings, diagrams, sketches, specifications, prints, manuals, and verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Provides reactive/unscheduled repairs of equipment during production operation.
  • Completes, reviews, and turns in accurate company required maintenance documentation including but not limited to Setup Sheet and Equipment Cleaning Tag.
  • Relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Provides technical assistance and support to junior mechanics.
  • Performs tasks with an understanding of the importance of increasing uptime and decreasing waste and production costs.
  • Expected to maintain work area as clean and organized as possible while performing tasks. Must clean up work area including all tools, materials, parts, fluids, etc. at the completion of troubleshooting, diagnosing, repair, setup, disassembly or any other task conducted while working on equipment.
  • Contributes to the development and on-going management of the equipment Preventative Maintenance (PM) program. Performs PM tasks as required and completes work order documentation.
  • Supports production Line Leads with changeovers to help increase skill level within production department.
  • Assists in identifying and procuring supplies, parts, and equipment as needed.
  • May participate in daily meetings with team or other departments.
  • Uses a wide variety of hand and portable tools to perform assignments.
  • Assists in running services to new or relocated equipment (air, water, electrical).
  • Performs task with safety in mind and improving safety for others.
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required.
  • Follows lockout/tag out safety procedures during service and repair.
  • Communicates effectively with internal customers (Line Leads & Production Supervisors), team members, other departments, and other shift mechanics.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent and minimum of 5 years machine repair experience and/or training, preferably in the areas of cosmetic, food, and/or pharmaceutical packaging or processing manufacturing.
  • Expert knowledge of DC & AC motors & drives (AB preferred).
  • Must have knowledge of Industry standard motion sensing & control devices.
  • General understanding of electrical and electrical controls.
  • Must be a team player and also be able to work independently.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient by defining tasks for successful completion.
  • Ability to handle high volume of work and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instruction and communicate clearly and concisely both written and verbal.
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate, and negotiate with others in an effective and professional manner.
  • Basic computer use, knowledge, and skills.
  • Must be flexible to change shift and/or schedule due to changing business needs. Ability to work overtime including 12-hour shifts and/or weekends.
  • Must have the ability to regularly use hands to finger, handle or feel, stand for extended periods of time up to the duration of a shift, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, smell, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles and fumes and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock and vibration and periods of cold and hot temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
